Merchant accounts for hard-to-place businesses

Declined, frozen, or dropped by a mainstream processor? There is usually more than one underwriting path.

Plenty of legitimate businesses get declined for reasons that have nothing to do with how they operate: a category code an underwriter dislikes, a chargeback ratio from one bad month, high average tickets, future delivery of goods, or simply not enough operating history.

Flat-rate aggregators are the worst fit here because they onboard first and underwrite later, which is how a business ends up with funds frozen and no explanation. Green PayTech is backed by two of the largest processing networks in the country, so a business that one network will not take can sometimes be placed with another.

I will be straight with you about this. If I do not think placement is realistic, I will say so rather than running your application and wasting a month.

Where hard-to-place businesses usually lose money

  • Declined on category code alone

Some categories get an automatic no from certain underwriters regardless of how well the business is run. A different network may say yes.

  • Funds frozen with no explanation

This is the signature failure of onboard-first providers. Proper up-front underwriting is what prevents it.

  • Chargeback ratios above threshold

Once you cross the card brand threshold you need both a processor that will work with you and a real plan to bring the ratio down.

  • Reserves and rolling holds

Some placements require a reserve. You should know the amount and the release terms before you sign, not after.

  • Limited operating history

New businesses with no processing record get judged on the owner and the plan. How the application is assembled genuinely matters.
